RECONSTRUCTION / TRANSPARENCY / ACCOUNTABILITY
Making reconstruction funding traceable.
SDI4LEB

THE CHALLENGE
Keeping reconstruction activity and funding visible.
Before and during reconstruction, clear records of costs, funding allocations and project progress are essential to accountability. Fragmented information makes it harder to scrutinise how resources are assigned and used.
MY CONTRIBUTION
Conceiving a deployable tool for transparency.
The purpose of the platform I worked on was to provide a ready-to-deploy tool for reconstruction monitoring, with maximum transparency as its central goal. Linking project information to geographic locations would make funded activities easier to examine and follow.
THE APPROACH
Linking records, places and progress.
The spatial data infrastructure connects geographically located projects with documents, photographs, maps and plans. A browser-based view allows different users to consult and summarise reconstruction information within a shared geographic context.
PURPOSE & USE
Supporting scrutiny of reconstruction programmes.
The intended users included local organisations, European Commission project officers, Lebanese beneficiaries and other donors, with public access where appropriate. Traceable project records and accessible progress information were designed to support accountability and reduce opportunities for funding mismanagement.
